Celebrating Arthur Russell - A night with Peter Broderick 2020

PRODUCER - Celebrating Arthur Russell

Peter Broderick speaks about how he first discovered Arthur Russell

When Arthur Russell died in 1992 he left behind a treasure trove of unreleased music. Thanks to Russell’s partner Tom Lee and to Steve Knutson of Audika Records, who have spent many year’s with this archive of music, we now have access to many versions of Arthur Russell.

On hearing an interview with Tom Lee in 2019, I was moved at the many year’s of care and effort that went curating this album. Tom Lee credits Peter’s musical talent and sensibility for Arthur’s music as essential to finishing the latest album ‘Iowa Dreaming’ in a way that felt true to Arthur Russell.

I was surprised and delighted when Peter Broderick actually answered by email and then agreed to play an intimate gig in the Big Romance Bar in Dublin.

The gig was sold out in minutes on a cold and dark February in 2020.

Thanks to the Big Romance Bar for their support and Aoise Tutty for her wonderful documentation on the night.
